This is the sort of thing that makes me love Dragon Quest
The missing abbot of Alltrades Abbey is Jack. Jack of Alltrades. Yes.
I am vaguely ashamed of just how hilarious I find this.
When you find him, he's in the middle of a rite to give himself the power of supreme guidance. Unfortunately, this turns him into a monster with a scorpion tail, and he realizes that fear and tyranny are the best ways to ensure people follow the righteous path.
Which leads to the following bit of dialogue:
"I am no longer Jack of Alltrades! I am become Master of Nu'Un, and all will learn to obey me...or suffer my wrath!"
