Scarlett is pretty one-note. She loosens up a bit, though she has the occasional relapse. I kind of like that chilling focus, but it also makes me wince. She's...pretty messed up, you know?

Tunnel Rat is adorable and I want to go have a beer with him! I have always been a Duke fangirl so expected him to be my favorite Joe, but I love, love, love Tunnel Rat and Roadblock. :D

And gnnh, yes, the Baroness! This is my favorite version of her, oh yes.

(And yes, surprisingly dark Y7!)

I like me some fucked up characters, but honestly, I kind of resent that the women are relegated to the Humorless Bitch (who got them into all this, let's not forget) and Loyal Behind-the-Scenes Helper. (Oh, Jaye, you've lost all your levels of Badass! Also, I cannot figure out what the fuck your accent is supposed to be.) And then there is Jinx, whose switch from "I have absolute faith in Snake-Eyes" to "I totally believe you, Storm Shadow" gave me whiplash. I don't know how old she's supposed to be, but the level of her emotional reactions over logic to everything, plus how hard they hit the "teenage girl with a crush on her teacher" notes, made it hard for me to revise my initial estimate higher than fourteen-fifteen, even though I think canon intended to imply she was at least 18. (On the other hand, Duke getting his ass handed to him by a slip of a girl is never going to stop being funny. Also, "flavor of the month" made me LOL.)

TUNNEL RAT! I have no resistance to his snark. He and Roadblock are definitely the Joes worth hanging out with. Though I do like the way they're walking the line (so far; I'm only on episode 7) with Flint being both a self-important asshole and a genuinely decent guy. Sadly, I think he's the most nuanced character of the bunch.

Oh, the Baroness! I liked her when she was just pulling the strings behind the scenes, but then she went out in the field! And nothing fazed her! "Oh, my jetpack is destroyed; well, I'll just dump that and proceed to kick ass. Bother, there goes one of my weapons; well I still have another." She is like Carmen Sandiego's more evil sister, and even though she technically failed, she hit my competency kink like nnnngggg. ♥

(Also, HOW MUCH DO I LOVE COBRA COMMANDER IN THIS? No ranting - yet - no hysterics, just pulling her out of the field to focus on a smear campaign. Loved the dig about how anyone could replace her in the field.)

Y7! I keep checking the rating when they do things like the lingering shot on Hard Master's corpse, and it just stays Y7. (When I was 7, Battle of the Planets couldn't even admit that Colonel Chronus had died offscreen, much less show the body.)

So, overall, I am pretty full of squee over the series, but I do have some issues, and you've nailed one of them with the women. Well, all the women except the Baroness, who has been 100% fabulous so far. (It is possibly I am a tad biased towards her.) I...am both hopeful that there will be some improvement and cynical that only the men will get actual character development. Right now, I'm reading Scarlett as feeling very guilty for getting them into the mess, so she's determined to get their evidence and clear their names and then everything will be all right and she can stop feeling guilty. Which appeals to me on an "...oh, you're so fooling yourself" level, but I still want to see her developed as an individual instead of just being the Reason They Are In This Mess. (But if the creators aren't going to do right by her, I want them to leave her alone so I can continue to treat my head canon as actual canon, because I can give her those layers, damnit, and have the other characters figure her out and help her get started on working through everything.)

And I'd like to see Lady Jaye get some character development that doesn't depend on Duke. ._. Right now, she's pretty much defined by her relationship to Duke and Flint, and I'm not too happy about that. She's supposed to be awesome, and there are glimmers of it (her little exchange with Scarlett on the train about how they'd need to make it look like she put up a fight), but not the actual awesome yet. Give it to me! Creators, you made the Joe cast smaller for a reason! Take full advantage!

This Cobra Commander fills me with so much glee! Much like the Baroness! I really like this version of Cobra. ACTUALLY COMPETENT! ACTUALLY TERRIFYING! And the Commander, gnnh, no ranting, no explosive reactions, just calculated displays. Hi, my buttons!

The Baroness is making up in PURE AWESOME what Scarlett and Lady Jaye lack, definitely. In fact, this show is almost a textbook example of why I'm normally attracted to the bad girls. OMG BARONESS HOW SO AWESOME???

On the up side, this means that even though I'm squeeing over the show I'm not heavily invested in any one character, so I'm less conflicted than I am about TF Prime (where I want ALL the Arcee ALL the time! Except I'm afraid they'll screw her up and utterly torpedo my love of the show. You see? CONFLICTED! D:)

Cobra Commander makes me so very happy. Oh, Cobra, sneakily slithering into every aspect of our lives is SUCH a better plan for taking over the world.
