...the mere act of installing Scrivener and Liquid Story Binder would inspire me to actually WRITE.

(I have the itchy creative brain/no inspiration combo that often precedes me flinging myself bodily into a new fandom. Unfortunately, there's not one damn thing I'm feeling fannish about right this minute, so instead I will go farm leather and crab meat along the Pandaren coastline.)

Edit: And then I was ridiculously pleased to finally track down, after YEARS of not being able to remember anything about the title and author, and remembering only the most sketchy details of plot, Godsfire (This was the cover it had when I read it. I remembered said cover completely wrong, except for the part where there were cats. Now I wonder where the hell my mental image of a vaguely Egyptian-esque cat lady reclining on a throne came from.)

WordPad. My ultimate writing software is still WordPad (even if it won't count the words for me.)

I get the strong feeling from that cover that it was a case of "this is out of print so she decided to make her own cover and put it up for sale herself". Which I...kind of like? Or at least wish more authors would do with their OOP back catalog.

Notepad++ is my current fave. Mostly for word counting capability. :D

I agree! I like that authors are doing that, too. There's so much good stuff that is out of print now. One author I really like who's doing that is Rosemary Kirstein. Her Steerswoman series is awesome. :D

I'm glad Kirstein is doing it, because I wanted the Steerswoman novels but I just don't READ hardcopy anymore if I can help it.

:) *looks* Ah, she does have all of them up on Kindle. Awesome. :D I was just sliiiightly off-timing, as I found and bought her stuff in paperback. It was only the last one that I had to pay the "wow, this is really out of print, isn't it?" tax on. ^_^;;
