Other people do this, right?

I mean, the thought, "I should take some programming classes, maybe some introductory engineering, so I can write giant transforming space robots with greater verisimilitude"...that's perfectly normal, right?

I have often thought this. Granted, I've often thought about taking engineering classes to become an engineer one day anyway. But in the meantime I definitely have read about it for no other purpose than writing giant transforming space robots.

It has occurred to me that if I superficially structure my writing like a business endeavour, suddenly all such research costs could be consider work-related expenses.

Who cares if that's normal or not? That's awesome.

Whatever makes you interested in learning something is worthwhile, in my opinion. :) I really do think it's great!

And RL should stop getting in the way of college. It's so frustrating.

agreeing with the other cat - it's awesome. ^____^ And no, you're not alone, and maybe it's perfectly normal or GMTA or something. At the very least, I try to plunder what I know of programming and engineering for technobabble.

I, ah, at one point seriously considered studying astronomy because Power Rangers. In the end I only took the one summer semester, but still. XD

1) Possibly not normal, but definitely awesome. I for one would welcome more accurate technobabble in my robot porn.

2) Props for use of the word 'verisimilitude'.
