I have often thought this. Granted, I've often thought about taking engineering classes to become an engineer one day anyway. But in the meantime I definitely have read about it for no other purpose than writing giant transforming space robots.

It has occurred to me that if I superficially structure my writing like a business endeavour, suddenly all such research costs could be consider work-related expenses.

I admit that part of it is probably because once upon a time (before depression and family crap conspired to make me drop out of college, and work/real life kept me from going back) I wanted to BE an engineer. But giant space robots seem like a much better reason to apply myself to learning things these days.

Whatever makes you interested in learning something is worthwhile, in my opinion. :) I really do think it's great!

And RL should stop getting in the way of college. It's so frustrating.

I, ah, at one point seriously considered studying astronomy because Power Rangers. In the end I only took the one summer semester, but still. XD
