I blame being sick

dragovianknightI'm pretty sure there is no other excuse for starting writing a Blackstar fic from Klone's point of view.
Huh. I really thought I had a Blackstar icon. Oh, well, Zorro will have to do.
It had to be an outsider who did it, you understand. Anyone from our world would have had far too much sense to pick up the Star Sword and try to face the Overlord with it. But an off-worlder... he wouldn't know any better, wouldn't know that to defy the Overlord was a death sentence, or worse.
Mara was never quite right after she brought him to us, of course. The strain of opening the gateway burned out a great deal of her magic. And I don't know that she ever forgave the necessity of our deception, for all that she was the one who came up with the plan, the one who created the spell, the one who chose the time and the target. Perhaps especially because she was the one.
For you see, Blackstar could never know we were the ones who tore him from his own world so that he could save ours. There was too much risk, that he would resent the destiny we forced upon him, turn on us. To him, we must seem only the very lucky - very grateful - recipients of fate.
Our gratitude, at least, was real, even if our luck was self-made.
