Mostly, I wonder if tumblr fandom would be as uncritically "awww yis, Megatron is an awesome badass leader" if instead of curing alcoholism he was enforcing celibacy. "No more impure thoughts for you! *smack*"

Tumblr fandom...and possibly other parts of fandom, IDK...genuinely sees this as GOOD LEADERSHIP on Megatron's part. I can't even.

Edit: Found a spoilery review of the issue in question. Still not feeling the "Megatron is a great leader" vibe.

But... but it's Megatron! The mere fact that Megatron is the one doing it ought to be enough of a clue that permanently altering someone's programming without their consent is Bad and Wrong. (if it weren't already inherently obvious, that it).

... maybe I'm too influenced by the G1 cartoon, where the only reason Megatron isn't the very worst leader ever is that Starscream and Galvatron exist?

Apparently, in the IDW comics Megatron has had a change of heart. Though, obviously, not of tactics, nor has he experienced enlightenment regarding personal autonomy. These facts don't even slow the Megatron fangirls down, alas.

(Starscream was apparently ELECTED leader of Cybertron. I can't even.)
