Today Dragovian Knight wrote 1,111 words.

I didn't even realize I'd done that until I finished and went to my stats page.

Wrote muchly on Fallen Knight. This section (part three of chapter two...yes, I know I'm horrible and impatient and can't even wait to post a full chapter because I'm an attention whore. This is not news.) is looking to be longer than the entire rest of the story. Granted, the entire rest of the story is only around 4k. but I am having to really fight the urge to split chapter two into four parts instead of the planned three.

You know, I used to write drabbles; what is happening to me?

Anyhow, this story/chapter/episode/chunk/thing is getting close to done. I wrote the end, which made me a bit *wibble*, and I got Ali to argue with KITT finally, and if you read the ficbits I posted yesterday (it was yesterday, right?) you know that Ali and KITT achieve their mission objective, go them. Now I just need to write the bit at the beginning where Ali argues with Devon (what can I say, getting shot makes her cranky), and tie all the scenes together so they don't look like Frankenstein's monster when I'm done.

And yes, the final scene would make a very nice end to the story, but the story isn't even half over yet. Mwah-ha-ha.

The feed from the commlink confirmed that she was in no condition to be upright, much less discharged; her heart rate was up, her body temperature was down, and she was filled with so many pain killers he was surprised she could walk. He started his engine and darkened his windows, anticipating her uncertain, "KITT? Are you here?"

"I'm on my way." They could discuss the situation when she wasn't threatening to fall over.

When she came in range of his visual scanners, the harsh glare of the hospital's night lighting made her look worse than he'd expected. "What are you doing out here?" he chided as he opened his passenger door for her. "You can't have been discharged."

"Nope. Left completely AMA."

"Then I ought to turn around and take you right back to the hospital's emergency entrance."

"Don't you dare." Wincing, she began to crawl over the center console, hampered by the sling supporting her left arm. "Is there time to get to Munoz?"

"We lost an entire day," KITT hedged.

"And don't think I've forgotten we had nearly a day to spare. What are our odds?"

"It's theoretically possible to still reach the restaurant on time."

"Then plot a course and let's do this," she said, settling into the driver's seat with a groan.

"Alicia..."

"Don't Alicia me. If I'm only doing one mission for FLAG, it's damn well going to be finished."

KITT felt a moment of panic before he realized her meaning was less fatalistic than his interpretation. "You're in no condition to be driving."

"I'm not driving."

"Or /upright/, for that matter."

"Shut up."

"Whatever you're trying to prove with such a foolhardy..."

"I said, shut up!"

Surprise silenced him, more than the order. He considered that, even though she was correct he couldn't force her into a hospital, he should return her to the semi; she was injured, drugged, clearly irrational, and no doubt clinging to consciousness with the sort of stubbornnes he had become far too familiar with over the years. More than sufficient cause for him to allow his preservation of human life programming to override her commands.

Before Michael, he would have done so without a second thought, not turned to follow the course she had requested. California roads were never free of traffic, but the late hour meant he could make up some of the lost time through sheer speed.

Nearly an hour passed before a soft, "Hey, KITT?" reached his audio sensors.

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry."

"I don't suppose that means you're prepared to be sensible."

"No." She paused, then added groggily, "I hate hospitals."

"Most people do. That doesn't mean you don't need to be in one."

"I'm going to regret apologizing in a minute."

"I'm afraid /I'm/ going to regret going along with this!"

Alicia was silent long enough that he scanned her to see if she'd passed out or fallen asleep. "'m sorry, KITT; I'm not hanging Munoz out to dry."

"And I'm not letting you get yourself killed."

For the first time since the hospital, the fingers of her good hand curled around the steering yoke, squeezing lightly. "Then what are we fighting for? I'm completely in favor of not getting killed."

52 day streak. Nearly halfway through the July challenge. Over halfway to both the Phoenix and Flock badges.

Very nice. I was hoping KITT would win (even though you already wrote the following scene, so I knew he wouldn't...). I don't think he ever won against Michael, did he?
