dragovianknight: Now is the time we panic - NaNoWriMo (Isis - preparing for flight)

Via [personal profile] marthawells and half the rest of the universe: Westboro Baptist Church fails to grasp just who they are taking on at Comic-Con. My favorite is the Starfleet officer with the "God Hates Jedi" sign. ♥

In less happy news, [personal profile] ardwynna posts about Bismark, a German Shepherd at the Baldwin Park animal shelter who is scheduled to be euthanized in two days due to lack of space. If you know anyone who wants a dog in the California area, boost the signal, yeah?

But so we don't end on a downer, [personal profile] rosabelle wrote about Aang giving Zuko a puppy! :D :D :D :D :D

Edit of "OMG they're bantering again!": I just finished my 750 words, and the first hundred or so of it was this from the Fallen Knight 'verse (and yes, Dulcea was playing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" when I wrote it, though I can't decide if that's a song Ali would actually listen to...I've always liked it because the band of demons sounds awesome).

"It's called a devil's bargain, KITT."

"If I am correct, is not the devil a mythological figure also known as the Prince of Lies?"

"Yeah."

"Then why would anyone expect him to stick to the terms of any deal he made?"

"Because it makes people feel better." KITT remained silent, and after a moment she elaborated, "It's all but impossible for people to lead a moral and blameless life. But everyone can convince themselves that they're smarter than they really are."

"Smart enough to outwit the devil?"

"Exactly."

"I see."

"No, you don't. You're still confused why anyone would do something that stupid."

"Perhaps a bit, considering the stakes."

"It's a song, KITT. Don't think about it so hard." She grinned. "You'll blow a processor."

KITT "hmph"d softly at her. "As if that were a possibility."

And then, because goddess forbid I should let KITT have an angst free morning, at the end of my 750 words I wrapped up with a teeny tiny bit from Indestructible.

"Hey, buddy." Michael found himself pressing his hands hard against KITT's hood, as if he could steady him. "How are you feeling?"

"I feel..." KITT paused. "Disoriented," he said finally. "And am I off the ground for some reason?"

"Yeah, we had a little problem."

"There appear to be gaps in my memory."

The scanner was still moving in a jagged, jerky line, but it was moving. "Whatever's wrong, I'm sure Bonnie will fix you up."

"Bonnie's here?"

The brightening of KITT's voice made Michael smile in spite of everything. "Yeah, she's here." He stepped back, though he knew something as flimsy as a human body wasn't enough to block KITT's scanner - at least not under normal circumstances - and turned toward the group watching them.

Edit of "Ah hah, I remember what I wanted to talk about!": I watched one of the special features from the Knight Rider 2008 dvds last night, and one of the people responsible for designing the Knight Industries Three Thousand mentioned that modern cars can do "most" of the things the original KITT can do. "REALLY?" went I. "Modern cars can drive themselves and have lengthy philosophical conversations? THE BIG GUY HAS BEEN HOLDING OUT ON ME! Tomorrow he's driving to work while I watch DVDs, and then we're brainstorming fic!"

Alas, the Big Guy is still holding out on me and made me drive myself to work. :( Plus, he wouldn't even scan and identify the hot car that drove past in the opposite direction at about 80MPH. And we already know he fails the molecular bonded shell test, from the accident in January. He must be a Team Knight Rider level vehicle.

Big Guy: HEY! There's no need to be insulting.

They also talked about how they didn't want to do the red light, because that would be too close to the original. So then their big solution was to...take the scanner and mirror it. Okay then.

Most of the trip to work today we were surrounded by white Fords. It was disconcerting. Like that classic BSG episode where the Viper pilots met angels or whatever and came back with their uniforms bleached all white. (Look, I was 7-8 when that episode aired; this is the best description you're getting from me.)

Ah, the BSG ep that launched a thousand slash fics...what with Starbuck's slightly overdramatic 'I'd give up my own life if it would bring him back!' Paraphased as I don't remember the exact line. Oddly, later when Apollo is actually revived Starbuck has a line -- 'I don't know who you are, but whatever you want from me you can have' -- which should be just as weird, but comes across much better, maybe because he delivers it much more quietly, almost overwhelmed.

IMHO, anyway.

Apropos of *NOTHING* in your post, I would like to say I love your icon! I ADORED Isis when I was a kid and watched it whenever I could. I *SO* wanted her amulet so I could become a gorgeous goddess! Travis bought me the DVDs when they came out! I should watch them again…

Am I correct in assuming, then, that you're also a child of the 70s? Did you ever watch Space Giants? That was another favourite of mine. :)

Watching it today, of course, Isis is thoroughly ridiculous. But as a girl wearing a boy's body, the fantasy of being able to become a beautiful woman by wearing a piece of jewelry was intoxicating. Still is, actually. :)

Space Giants was a live-action show from Japan about a boy named Miko and his robot friend Gam, who had robot parents named Silvar and Goldar. The robots all turned into rockets, and they defended the Earth from the evil Rodak. It was all *VERY* silly but I loved that show. Here's the first part of the first episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La6G-7mOUOI
