Bold all that are/were true for you before you were an adult (18), italicize uncertainties:

1. We always had clean drinking water. We didn't have to carry it a long way.
2. We never went hungry.
3. We were warm enough in the winter.

4. We could go to a doctor if we were sick.
5. Garbage and sewage were taken away from our home.
6. None of our female relatives died in childbirth.
7. We learned to read, we went to school. All our relatives did. Even the women.

If you can bold all of these, you are in the most privileged 12% (or smaller) on the planet. (Clearly, chosen privation, such as camping trips, does not count.) Feel free to pass around.

Yeah, I has a privilege. How about you?

[livejournal.com profile] spiralsheep first linked me to it, and it is helping to soothe my temper in regards to the other privilege meme going around (or at least, the responses to that meme).

Yes. I have seen various responses to that meme that struck me.

1) We lost our wellhouse one summer and had no running water for 2 months. Several other years, our well went dry and we had to use the neighbors' cistern or go across town to my grandparents.

4) Usually. But mom was a nurse and she decided if a doctor was needed.

6) My sister nearly bled out on the delivery table. She did survive. That's as close as we want to get to it.

Just here to say

Happy Birthday!

Sorry to be a bit tardy. Hope it was a good one.

Okay, so I couldn't bold them all. Still? I'm a privileged white girl. Certainly have it all now. Good post!
